Environmental Protection Specialist

The Environmental Protection Specialist position is located in the Cheltenham Administration Division of the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate in Cheltenham, MD. Being an Environmental Protection Specialist makes you a valuable member of the FLETC team and mission. You will be responsible for ensuring that the environmental and safety programs are formulated and administered in accordance with Department of Homeland Security policies and procedures, and standards promulgated by environmental laws and regulations issued by higher authority. Typical assignments include:
Serving as an expert environmental coordinator for FLETC Cheltenham and is responsible for planning and developing policy and procedures for the administration of a complex and large-scale environmental program. Implementing environmental protection policies and programs that are directly or indirectly concerned with the management of the welfare and protection of people, property and the environment. Conducting formal and informal environmental compliance audits/inspections, analyzing environmental data, and evaluating FLETC Cheltenham facilities and/or activities on a continuing basis to identify and resolve deficiencies and improve compliance relative to applicable environmental laws, regulations and practices. Assisting in the development and updating of FLETC's Environmental Master Plan, including budgetary impacts. Initiating, coordinating, preparing and reviewing environmental studies, investigations and reports. Participating in the FLETC Safety and Occupational Health Programs to ensure a full range of workplace safety, occupational health and fire safety. Identifying all fire safety, safety and occupational health violations, notifying responsible parties for corrective action, record keeping of each violation, maintenance of an abatement plan and follow-up inspections in accordance with OSHA Regulations, Emergency Management, and Hazardous Material Management. Maintaining liaison with Federal and state regulatory agencies pertaining to high profile environmental requirements and issues. Attending professional meetings and conferences to share FLETC environmental innovations. The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess the following:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting formal and informal environmental compliance audits; coordinating and preparing environmental studies, investigations and reports; and recommending procedures for managing and disposing of hazardous, regulated and non-regulated waste streams for large scale, complex environmental programs that encompass environmental protection related to multi-faceted facilities. You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess the following:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal service. For this position, specialized experience is experience directing, evaluating, and formulating plans and policies for a large scale, complex environmental and safety/occupational health program that encompasses environmental protection related to noise hazards and lead exposure hazards, motor vehicle maintenance/repair facilities, and hazardous materials storage/management including explosives and/or construction. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Re-employed annuitants' annual salaries will be reduced by the amount of their retirement annuity and by further cost of living increases. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
